Understanding prescription capsule formulations
Capsules are oral prescription medicines supplied in a defined strength for one named patient. Familiar appearance does not reduce the need for individual assessment and pharmacy instructions.
What an oral capsule formulation means
A capsule contains a measured quantity of medicine in a standard oral form. The pharmacy label and written information remain the authoritative source for the individual patient.
Why formulation choice is clinical
The clinician may consider swallowing ability, digestive health, medicines, allergies, liver function, pregnancy and impairment risk. A capsule is not automatically safer because it is familiar.
Safety, storage and monitoring
Do not share, alter or take capsules differently from the pharmacy label. Store them securely and report significant drowsiness, confusion, mood change, allergy symptoms or other concerns.
